The *REAL Story Behind the 2026 Ruidoso Easter Egg Hunt

This Easter at Wingfield Park in Ruidoso, families gathered for a joyful morning filled with laughter, sunshine, and hundreds of brightly colored eggs scattered across the park.
It looked effortless.
But as it turns out… there may have been a very special helper involved.
According to unofficial reports, Mountain Spirit—former feral reservation dog and 2025 John Henry Award Winner—was spotted early that morning carefully overseeing egg placement.
While most assumed this was a simple egg drop, Spirit appeared to take his role quite seriously. From the spacing of the eggs to their placement throughout the park, it was clear this was no ordinary task.
Of course, when asked if he participated in the hunt itself, the answer was immediate:
He did not hunt the eggs.
He hid them.
And by the end of the morning, after what can only be described as a highly focused operation, Spirit was found exactly where you might expect—resting after a job well done.
All jokes aside, the real magic of the day came from the incredible work of the Village of Ruidoso employees, who prepared the park and created such a special experience for hundreds of children and their families.
